HOME / LOCATION/ GETTING AROUND
Shimla has a number of roads that restricted and sealed to vehicular traffic.
It is therefore easier to hire a local taxi rather than battle traffic and no-go zones.
Central Shimla (including the Mall and the Ridge) and its extension all the way
to the Vice Regal Lodge is largely pedestrianized and approximately a 3 kms long
or brisk 45 minute walk. Guests can also chose to cut out the uphill climb by
taking a cab from Sunnymead to the two-stage elevator or Lift, connecting
The Mall with Cart Road (ticket prices are currently Rs.20/- per person) and then
easily walking back following Raaja Bhasin’s book on the ten walks of Shimla.
The best guided walks are conducted by the noted local historian Raaja Bhasin,
author of “Shimla: The Summer Capital of British India”. E-mail or call Raaja
in advance to make sure he’s available (tel. +91-98163028014; raajabhasin@yahoo.com).
Shimla is overflowing with travel agents and trekking companies.
